Belgium retained their top spot in FIFA's Thursday World Football Rankings and finished the third consecutive year as the number one ranking.

The FIFA rankings were started in 1993 and since the rankings began, the highest 1082 matches were played in 2019 while in 2020 only 352 matches were played due to Corona's havoc which is the lowest since 1987.

Belgium won six of the eight matches this year and ensured their place in next year's Uefa Nations League Finals. There was no change in the top four spots. World champions France finished second, Brazil third and England fourth. Portugal rose to fifth place while Spain (sixth) and Argentina (seventh) improved two places over the previous year.

Hungary was the most improving team this year. Hungary scored 44 points and improved to 12 places to reach the top 50.
