Former Indian captain Sunil Gavaskar has described Team India captain Virat Kohli as the most influential ODI player of the current decade, saying that Virat has won India a lot of matches while chasing a big target.
Virat made his Indian debut in the year 2008 and has played 251 ODIs for India so far and scored 12,040 runs with 43 centuries. In the recent ODI series against Australia, Virat had broken the record of the fastest cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar, surpassing the record of making the fastest 12 thousand runs in ODI series. Sachin took 300 innings to cross the 12 thousand run mark.

Gavaskar said on the Star Sports program Cricket Connected, "I think if you look at him personally, Virat is the most influential Indian player of the current decade because he has led India to many goals in chasing big goals." He said, "You have to admit that this decade has actually been Virat Kohli as Virat has made the most impact in the matches that India has won."

Former Australian opener Matthew Hayden, however, believes that former captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni is the most influential player in ODIs for India in this decade as he has won three ICC trophies during his captaincy.

It is noteworthy that under the captaincy of Dhoni, India has won all the three ICC Trophy World Cup, ODI World Cup and Champions Trophy titles. Dhoni has played 90 Tests, 350 ODIs and 98 T20 matches for India in his 15-year career, after which he retired from international cricket on 15 August this year. The former captain, who made his debut in international cricket against Bangladesh in 2004, has scored 4876 runs in Test cricket, 10773 in ODIs and 1617 runs in T20 cricket.
