Coronavirus Live: Cases close to 28,000 , deaths 872, 6184 cured

The novel Coronavirus cases in the country reached close to 28,000 mark on Monday morning with the figure standing at 27,892, according to the government data.

An increase in the fatalities in the past 24 hours, pushed the death toll to 872, Union Health Ministry said in its report.

The active cases of COVID-19 in the country is now pegged at 20,835.

Meanwhile, the number of cured and discharged cases have increased to 6,184 pan India, the data revealed.

Across the nation, the maximum cases and fatalities have been reported in the state of Maharashtra with the number jumping to 8,068 cases and 343 deaths reported so far.

Gujarat, the state with the second-highest number of COVID cases since the past couple of days, has witnessed a rapid increase in the infection with the figure now standing at 3,301 and 151 deaths so far.

Cases have also increased in the National Capital where the number is 2,918 with deaths mounting to 54, while Madhya Pradesh now houses a total of 2,096 cases and 103 succumbing to the virus so far.

Rajasthan has reached a tally of 2,185 cases with 33 deaths, Tamil Nadu 1,885 with 24 casualties and in Uttar Pradesh, the number of cases now stand at 1,868 with 29 deaths reported so far.

On Sunday morning, Prime Minister Narendra Modi in his radio programme 'Mann Ki Baat' saluted the spirit of countrymen and said that India's battle against the deadly virus is being fought by its people who have shown resolve and brought in a new change in the country.

Asserting that the fight was people-driven in his monthly broadcast , he said, "Our fight against COVID-19 is truly people-driven. People of our country are fighting this war along with the administration. We are also fighting poverty. I am proud that all of us are part of it."
