ED to Interrogate Kerala HE Minister Again

The
Enforcement Directorate (ED) is likely to interrogate the Higher Education
Minister of Kerala, K T Jaleel, once again, in connection with the gold
smuggling case. It all happened only after the Law Enforcement Agency, which
had recorded Jaleel’s statement, showed his dissatisfaction on Friday. “The ED will summon him again, if
necessary, to get clarification on his statements as he had claimed that he had
no idea about the materials in the UAE diplomatic baggage and religious texts
sent to him from UAE”, sources said today.
He also asserted that he only made an
official relationship with Swapna Suresh, accused in the gold smuggling case.
The ED officials were not satisfied with his statement on religious texts.
There were discrepancies between the statements of the Minister and the details
collected.
Jaleel told the ED officials that he was
not aware over contacting the UAE consulate and handling diplomatic baggage is
a matter of protocol violation. Though the Minister claimed that his
relationship with Swapna was on official grounds, the ED assumed that there is
a strong bond between him and her.
