Five members of a marriage party were killed and as many injured when the vehicle in which they were travelling collided head-on with a lorry on the Mahanadi river bridge near Sonepur late Friday.
Police sources said all the five died on the spot. The injured were shifted to VSSIMSR, Burla after giving primary treatment at Sonepur Hospital. The dead included the owner of the vehicle in which the marriage party members were returning.
The accident occurred when ten members of the marriage party were returning from Binika Kaudia village to Nirman village under Ulunda block of Sonepur district.
The vehicle was badly mangled in the accident. Police had to use a gas cutter to rescue the people trapped inside the vehicle and rushed them to hospital.
