Global Maritime Leaders and Port Chiefs to Convene at Three-Day
Mumbai Event
MUMBAI, 17 January 2025: The Federation of Indian Chambers
of Commerce and Industry (FICCI) is gearing up to host the third edition of the
Maritime India Conference & Expo 2025 from 22–24
January at the Bombay Exhibition Centre. The event will be inaugurated
by Union Minister for Ports, Shipping & Waterways Sarbananda
Sonowal on 22 January.
Supported by the Indian Ports Association, the event is
expected to attract over 7,500 visitors spanning the maritime
sector.
The conference will explore six strategic themes vital to India’s maritime
growth. Discussions will center on port transformation through smart
technologies and sustainable practices, with an
emphasis on decarbonising the maritime sector. Key topics will
include advancements in maritime logistics, India’s expanding cruise industry,
and innovations in shipbuilding and repair. Emerging technologies and
innovation will be overarching themes throughout the event.
Notable participants include Unmesh Wagh, Chairman of JNPA;
Venkata Ramana Akkaraju, Chairperson of New Mangalore Port
Authority; and Sushil Kumar Singh, Chairman of Deendayal Port
Authority. Prominent government officials such as Sanjay Sethi,
Maharashtra’s Additional Chief Secretary for Transport, Ports & Civil
Aviation, and Mugdha Sinha, Director General, Ministry of
Tourism, will also join policy discussions.
The event will showcase state-of-the-art maritime technologies
through live demonstrations, exhibits, and an innovation zone
featuring maritime startups. Structured engagements, including B2B,
B2G, and G2G meetings, will foster collaborations and investment
opportunities.
Investment Focus and India’s Maritime Vision 2047
The conference will prioritize investment discussions on port
modernisation, shipping infrastructure, and logistics.
It will also emphasize international collaborations and funding to align with
India’s Maritime Vision 2047, a roadmap to develop world-class
maritime infrastructure by the centenary year of independence.
Global leaders such as Kristof Waterschoot (Port of Antwerp
Bruges International), Dennis Jul Pederson (Port of Esbjerg),
and Dingeman Van Woerden (Damen Shipyard) will provide
insights alongside Juan Carlos Sahdala (DP World) and Karl
Alexander Wirën (Kongsberg Maritime).
On the Indian front, key industry leaders include Vijay Sankar,
Vice President of FICCI and Chairman of The Sanmar Group; Dhruv Kotak,
Chairman of FICCI’s Committee on Transport Infrastructure and MD of JM Baxi
Group; and executives like Rinkesh Roy (JSW Infrastructure), Arjun
Chowgule (Chowgule & Company), and Jurgen Bailom
(Waterways Leisure Tourism).
“This flagship initiative supports Maritime India Vision 2030,
driving over 300 transformational initiatives for India’s
maritime sector,” said Dhruv Kotak, highlighting its alignment
with national priorities.
Rizwan Soomar, Chair of FICCI’s National Committee on
Logistics and MD & CEO at DP World for the Middle East, North Africa, and
India Subcontinent, added, “India’s maritime sector is pivotal to achieving USD
2 trillion in exports by 2030. This event provides an excellent platform to
align industry efforts with the government’s ambitious trade and economic
goals.”
