Labourers stuck in MP to be brought back to UP from Wednesday: Yogi Adityanath

After bringing back students from Kota and labourers from Haryana, now Yogi Adityanath government in Uttar Pradesh has announced to evacuate stranded labourers of the state from the adjoining state of Madhya Pradesh from Wednesday. The announcement was made by the CM during his routine meeting with the officials of his Team 11 here on Tuesday.

Mr Adityanath said after the success of the evacuation operation of bringing back around 12,000 labourers from Haryana in two phases by engaging over 400 buses, now it is time to do the same for the labourers stranded in Madhya Pradesh. An official said around 400 buses would be pressed in service for operation Madhya Pradesh. It is expected that around 15,000 labourers are expected to return to their native districts from Madhya Pradesh, though they will have to stay in quarantine for 14 days at the shelter homes. Meanwhile, the UP government has commenced evacuating around 10,000 students from Prayagraj from Monday night.

Official sources here on Tuesday said that 300 buses have been pressed in service for the students to be ferried to their respective home districts in Poorwanchal. The students were sent to their native districts after their medical examination. They said that the entire Prayagraj operation would end by tomorrow.

Anticipating evacuation of lakh of stranded labourers from other states, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath had directed to prepare for housing around 15 lakh people in quarantine shelter homes in the state. The CM had asked all the districts to make arrangement for housing 10,000 to 15,000 people in quarantine centres in their respective districts immediately. Mr Adityanath wants that the state should have arrangements to house around 10 to 15 lakh people in these quarantine centres, which should be geotagged, " the sources said.

The CM had clearly said that only those labourers from other states would be evacuated who have completed 14 days of quarantine in that state and they will again have to go for another 14 days quarantine here in their respective native districts before going to their villages or home.

The direction came after UP government had announced to bring back stranded state labourers from other parts of the country. There are around 10 lakh labourers of UP residing in other states.

Already 12,200 labourers have been brought to UP from Haryana and now they are in quarantine in the shelter homes in their respective districts. Around 10,500 students of the state were also evacuated from Kota in Rajasthan last week and they are too under quarantine in their home.

Meanwhile, during the Team 11 meeting, the CM said that his government was committed to protect the lives of the 23 crore population of the state. Besides, he said that the people and students of UP who are stranded in other states would be brought back in phases.
