Terming the UN General Assembly President, Volkan Bozkir’s statements on J&K as 'misleading & prejudiced', the Indian Government had on May 28, 2021 criticized saying that his remarks were an ominous sign for the office he possessed.

The UNGA President while speaking to the media in Islamabad of Pakistan on May 27, 2021 said that keep the J&K issues strongly to the UNGA forum was the duty of Pakistan. Bozkir was accorded by the Pakistan Foreign Minister, Shah Mahmood Qureshi. Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said, ”UNGA President’s statements are not at all acceptable. Besides, his reference for the territories of the Indian Union as ‘unwarranted’ is really shocking and unacceptable”.

Replying to media a query on this issue, the MEA spokesperson, Arindam Bagchi said, “If the UNGA’s serving passes irresponsible, deceptive and unfair statements, it means he is just defying the post or the office he possessed. Bozkir’s way of talking to the Pakistani media is, of course, unfortunate and definitely defies his post and designation on the world level platform”. While showing his disagreement for these statements of the UNGA President on the much hyped J&K issues and the issues related to the Indian Union territories, the MEA spokesperson said – the remarks that 'Pakistan is duty bound to raise this issue in the UN more strongly’ can never be acceptable to us. The UNGA President had on May 27, 2021 arrived to Islamabad in a three-day official visit to Pakistan. His visit was fixed after an invitation by Qureshi.

Noticeably, Pakistan has been taking incessant and intensive efforts to make the Kashmir as an ‘international issue’. Besides, taking various moves and campaign against India, Pakistan has also raised the issue related to India’s decision on withdrawal of special powers from Jammu and Kashmir & dividing the state into two union territories.
