The Nigerian Army has freed more than 300 students abducted by members of the terrorist organization Boko Haram from a school in northern Nigeria.

Katsina State Governor Aminu Bello Masari said on Friday that the National Security Forces were tasked to rescue the abducted students, who rescued these children.

Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari has expressed gratitude to security agencies and regional officials involved in rescue operations, saying that the release of the hijacked boys is' a great relief for the whole country and the international community.

Boko Haram on Tuesday claimed responsibility for last week's attack on the Kankara Government Science Secondary School and the kidnapping of hundreds of its students. The group's leader, Abubakar Shekau, said the abductions were carried out in the name of Islam and against 'Western education'.
