On the foundation day of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Prime Minister Narendra Modi has tweeted that the 40th foundation day of the party has come at a time when the country is fighting COVID-19. I urge the activists to follow the guidelines of party president JP Nadda Ji and help the needy with social distancing. Unite and free India from COVID-19.

He said in another tweet that whenever the BJP got a chance to serve, the party emphasized good governance and empowerment of the poor. In accordance with the principles of the party, our workers have toiled to bring positive changes in the lives of the people and also set a new example of social service.

The Prime Minister said that on the foundation day of the BJP, many congratulations to all the party workers. On this occasion my humble tribute to all those who contributed to the growth of the party with their blood and sweat. It is because of them that BJP has got an opportunity to serve crores of Indians across the country today.

The Bharatiya Janata Party was founded on April 6, 1980. BJP is currently going through its strongest phase. For the second time in a row, the party is in power at the Center with an absolute majority. The party alone has 303 Lok Sabha MPs. In its first Lok Sabha election in 1984, the BJP won just two Lok Sabha seats. Gradually, BJP appeared to strengthen itself in national politics. In 1989, the party was successful in winning 85 or 120 seats in 1991 in the wave of Ram temple movement. BJP got 161 seats in 1996 and 182 seats in 1998. The BJP formed a government on its own in 2014 with 282 seats, and won a more powerful victory in 2019. The party has regained power by winning 303 seats alone in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections.
