Tripura court pronounced hang to death sentence to two youths for rape and murder

The family of the minor girl, who was raped and murdered, in Dec 2018 remote, has expressed satisfaction after a special court handed out death sentence to the two convicts in the case on Thursday.


After a year-long-trial, the court found Kastharai Tripura and Bhonjoy Tripura guilty in rape and murder.


The people gathered in the court to hear the judgment in Udaipur attempted to assault the convicted persons despite tight security .


The district administration has shifted them to jail in tight security and also extended security to their respective houses in the village to prevent any untoward incident.


According to reports, the victim, a Class VIII standard girl had been kidnapped on Dec 5, 2018 while going to Colony Para high school in Nutan Bazaar where she studied. When she did not return home in the afternoon, parents registered a missing diary with the police.


A day after the incident, police detained one Dhanjoy Tripura (22) from his house at Ramchandra Reang Para. After questioning him, police nabbed one of the main culprits Kasturai Tripura (33) from Krishna Kanta para of the same locality.


Based on their statement police unearthed her body, which was buried in jungle after rape and murder.


Later, police arrested another culprit Bhonjoy Tripura (35) after Kastharai revealed details to the police.


Both of them were granted custodial trial by the court and yesterday, court convicted them guilty under section 376 (D), 302, 363, 201 (34) of Indian Panel Code and 6 of he Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act.


During trial court had recorded the statement of 32 witnesses on the charge sheet filed by the police.


The law minister of Tripura Ratan Lal Nath also expressed satisfaction over the judgment and said, “The capital punishment against such heinous crime has sent an example for the future. I thank the court for speedy disposal of the case that certainly boosts further trust on judiciary.”
