Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Information Broadcasting Minister Prakash Javadekar and Minority Affairs Minister Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi on Wednesday greeted the people on the occasion Lohri.

Mr Shah tweeted, “Hearty greetings to Lohri. May this holy festival bring happiness and prosperity in the lives of all the countrymen."

Mr Javadekar's tweet read, "Hearty greetings of Lohri to all countrymen. May this holy festival remove negativity from everyone's life and bring prosperity."

Mr Naqvi tweeted, "Best wishes to Lohri."

Lohri is a popular Punjabi winter folk festival celebrated primarily in the Punjab region.

The festival is mainly celebrated in North India — Punjab, Delhi, Himachal Pradesh, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh — and people light a bonfire after sunset, seeking blessings, wearing traditional clothes, and distributing popcorn, rewadi and moongfali (groundnuts) as part of the festivities.
